Please contact your NYS senators and ask them to support legislation limiting teen visits to tanning booths. 14 to 18 year olds currently can visit booths with parental permission.  Yet using tanning booths prior to the age of 30 has been proven to increase one's risk for melanoma by 75 PER CENT!! I have seen pateints die from melanoma in their 30's who used tanning booths in their teens. Please do your part to help teenagers who just may not know better.  (The bill is A.1074,Weisenberg/S.2917, Fuschillo)

This week is Men's Health Week!  Make an appointment to have your skin checked for skin cancers and signs of diabetes, heart disease, connective tissue diseases, thryroid problems, and other conditions.  We can discuss your diet and any aesthetic issues you might have.

And if you are under age 26, it 's time for your Gardasil vaccination! (http://www.gardasil.com)

This weekend I attended the Aesthetics in Plastic Surgery/AntiAging Medicine conference at the Waldorf-Astoria.  The latest data about stem cell facial transplants was presented and discussed at length.  Fat has stem cells that can grow into mature skin cells such as fibroblasts, which then can produce the natural structural proteins of the skin.  In this procedure, then, fat is extracted from the belly or thigh, mixed with specific  growth factors, and injected into the face.  Over time, one can see good enhancement of facial volume.  This procedure is definitely in the research phase and there are many imitators out there, so be patient!  In the meantime, you might consider Sculptra (http://www.sculptraaesthetic.com), which is a series of injections that also stimulates the fibroblasts to make structural proteins in the face in a very similar manner.
