There is growing evidence for a link between an inflamed intestine and other diseases. With regard to the skin, we see an increased incidence of Crohn's disease in patients with psoriasis, for example. We now believe that inflammation of the gut may be related to skin rashes and possibly chronic conditions such as atopic dermatitis, rosacea, and acne.
Treatment of your skin condition may involve specific measurs to reduce any intestinal inflammation. there is even evidence that an altered bacterial microbiome (the array of bacteria residing in your intestine) may lead to inflammation of the gut, and then inflammation of other body systems. It is possible that restoring a healthy microbiome, for example by probiotic supplements and avoiding unecessary antibiotic treatment, may help with skin diseases.
My practice is geared toward helping my patients achieve healthier skin via a healthier body!
