How It Works
Collagen is what gives volume, flexibility and strength to healthy, young skin. As a part of the aging process, your own natural collagen breaks down, diminishing facial volume and elasticity. As we age, we also lose facial volume via bone loss, as well as loss of fat and muscle mass. This loss of volume and elasticity results in wrinkles, facial lines and skin laxity – all of which rob your skin of its youthful, fresh appearance. RADIESSE restores much of this lost volume.
What It Is
RADIESSE®Volumizing Filler is an injectable implant composed of synthetically produced smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres (diameter of 25µm to 45µm) suspended in a sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. RADIESSE Volumizing Filler is approximately 30% CaHA and 70% gel carrier by volume.
RADIESSE Volumizing Filler is injected into the skin in a minimally invasive procedure. Injection of the product provides an immediate one-to-one correction of the facial wrinkle. No skin sensitivity testing is required.
Replenishing Volume Restores Collagen, Resulting in a Refreshed You
Ideal wrinkle reduction is achieved by replenishing your skin's lost volume. Upon injection, RADIESSE®Volumizing Filler immediately provides the volume and lift needed to diminish the signs of aging because of the calcium-based microspheres and gel that comprise the product. But what's unique about RADIESSE Volumizing Filler is that it acts as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and stimulating your own natural collagen to grow. This process continues for several months, which extends the initial effect of RADIESSE Volumizing Filler. The natural results are clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients, which is why I often choose RADIESSE Volumizing Filler to achieve long-lasting facial rejuvenation in my patients.
After Your Treatment
Over time, the sugar gel is absorbed, and fibroblasts appear. The process of neocollagenesis begins, stimulating the gradual growth of the patient's own collagen. The collagen that forms results in extended correction. Results are clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients.
The cosmetic results are soft and natural-looking, and feel like your own tissue. The results are long-lasting, but not permanent. The CaHA microspheres naturally degrade to calcium and phosphate ions, which are metabolized by the body's normal processes.
Individual results may vary.
Dr. Clark is skilled at creating a very natural result, often using photographs of you from a slightly younger age to better understand your facial structure and unique characteristics. Many different areas of the face, as well as the hands, can be treated, depending upon where you have lost volume. Each treatment is highly individualized to ensure that you will leave the office feeling that you have attained a more revitalized appearance while retaining a completely natural look.
She is adept at the new and advanced use of cannulas, which are blunt-tipped, rather than sharp needles, to minimize discomfort and bruising, whereever possible. With these measures, bruising is not common or severe. Since lidocaine can be mixed with Radiesse prior to injection, discomfort is minimal, but Dr. Clark will work with you if you are particularily sensitive.Topical anesthetics, the use of ice and vibration, and even nerve blocks can be helpful in such cases.
