Squamous Cell Cancer from HPV Infection of the Mouth

A few days ago, Michael Douglas spoke out about the cancer that had been treated in his mouth and the relationship with HPV infection and oral sex. While some physicians took exception to his message, I applaud his courage in speaking out about this important and preventable problem. While oral squamous cell cancer from HPV infection is not common, young people need to know about the relationship between HPV infection and veneral warts, oral cancer, penile cancer, anal cancer, and cervical cancer. Vaccines are available for prevention of HPV infection and the related cancers and are covered by insurance for both men and women ages 9 to 27.

I encourage you to spread the word. I am availale to administer the vaccine in my office to both men and women.
