Strike a Pen through Acne Scars, Balding, Wrinkles, Brown Spots and Stretch Marks with Microneedling!
What is Micro-needling? Automated microneedling, or "collagen-induction therapy," is an innovation in aesthetics for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne and other scars, melasma, stretch marks, hair loss, and the skin’s texture, tone and color. It can be combined with PRP for greatly augmented results, and applied to the scalp along with PRP injected under the skin to regrow hair.
What is PRP and why do you use PRP with microneedling? Please read more about the remarkable benefits of harnessing growth factors from your own platelets in PRP using the Micropen for Microneedling and intralesional injections.
What are the benefits? Patients see a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture and softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. The micropen can help improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation as well as uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks. Recently patients with balding have seen impressive regrow th of hair with several treatments.
What areas of the body can I treat? The micropen can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, back and scalp.
How is the procedure performed? A sterile tip containing 12 tiny micro-tips is attached to the micropen. Your skincare professional will apply either hyaluronic acid or PRP and select the appropriate treatment pen settings based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. Several passes will be performed.
What does it feel like? The feeling associated with the micropen is anything from no sensation other than a feeling of something being glided across the skin to a prickling sensation. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating cartridge tip makes the treatment comfortable. Some patients, especially if we are treating deeper issues such as scars or stretch marks, elect to have a topical anesthetic applied prior to the procedure.
How long does the procedure take? The procedure takes 15-60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
What is the downtime? Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total recovery time depends on the position of the pen and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. On average, patients are red for 2-4 days. Some patients heal completely in 8 to 24 hours.
When will I see the results? Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment.
How many treatments will I need? Some patients only require a single treatment once a year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 4 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. For patients with concerns about deep wrinkles, advanced photoaging, stretch marks or acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 4-6 week intervals.
What is the aftercare? You will be able to wash the treated area about six hours after the procedure. You should avoid sweating and exercise for 24 hours. We recommend the use of a topical dermal rejuvenation system beginning the day of the treatment.
